I had been coasting through life at a steady pace by this point. I had left high school and started college. I had met an amazing guy who loved me and supported me through all my sickness. He is a very special human. Part way through the year, I had a routine colonoscopy which showed acute inflammation in my gut. I was sent straight to the hospital and put on a drip. I spent 5 nights in a hospital bed, being closely monitored, on a high dose of steroids once again. Doctors came in and out throughout that time, every single time I had to repeat my story, re-tell what had happened to me time and time again. The doctors talked of trying me on an infusion of Infliximab. On my final day in hospital, I had my first dose of Infliximab, this went well, and I was finally sent home. 2 weeks later, I had my next dose, then 4 weeks after that, then 6 weeks after that, and then every 8 weeks after that. The nurses in the day ward were all lovely and so very helpful. They made me feel very comfortable in this hard time. Infliximab started to make me feel a little better and I was able to get on with my life.
